Santanchè's (cold) defense. The center-right sends the third rows to the Chamber

In support of the Minister of Tourism, in the voting declarations, there are no interventions by big names. The parallel with the no-confidence vote in Nordio, which forces the majority to avoid the general discussion
On the same topic:
It will truly be an official defense, that of the Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè . Little else. With the parties of the majority that come to her aid, but without exaggerating, without putting too much conviction into it. For this reason, no interventions by big names from the center-right parties are expected. Quite the opposite. Not even on the other motion that is hanging over the other minister of the Government, Carlo Nordio. And whose general discussion opens this morning in the Chamber, without a vote, which will be scheduled later.
And so we return to discussing the motion of no confidence presented by the opposition against Santanchè, which arrives today in the Chamber with a vote, after the general discussion a couple of weeks ago. Santanchè will speak for about twenty minutes and then there will be an open vote. The strategy is increasingly that of tired defense . For the first party of the coalition, Fratelli d'Italia, the Honourable Andrea Pellicini , member of the Justice Commission, is expected to speak in the Chamber. But also for the League, the party that is coldest towards the minister, the defense will be carried forward by the deputy Ingrid Bisa , leader of the Carroccio in the Justice Commission in Montecitorio. As for Forza Italia, instead, there will be a speech by Andrea Costa . In short, the majority forces are not fielding the big names or the very front rows, almost as if the vote is not one of the priorities of the coalition at all. At least politically. The result, in any case, despite the presumed absences, is quite predictable. Last April the first motion of no confidence against the Minister of Tourism presented by the opposition was rejected. Even though on that occasion the benches of the Lega and Forza Italia members remained particularly empty. Not much else is expected.
Today's, however, even within the majority itself, is interpreted more as a pro forma intermediate step. Given that Santanchè's dismissal could be much more tied to the outcome of the other investigation involving her: the one with the hypothesis of accusation of fraud against INPS during the Covid-19 epidemic . And it is not at all certain that the cold and apathetic defense of the coalition that has held up so far, can continue to hold up even in the event of a referral to trial for that type of crime. A hypothesis that could gain traction in the coming months, given that the hearings of that procedural strand will close by May. Reinvigorating the opposition's requests.
But today, in the Chamber, it is not only the discussion of the motion of no confidence against Santanchè that is scheduled. This morning, the motion of no confidence presented by the opposition against the Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio will also be examined, who has come under fire for his handling of the Almasri case and for the explanations given in Parliament. Which according to the PD, M5S and AV were not at all satisfactory. In this case, the government's coverage of Nordio is solid. But in order to avoid comparisons between one minister and another, as it had done on February 10 in the case of the motion against Santanchè, the centre-right parties have mutually decided not to register anyone to speak during the general discussion. For this reason, in the Chamber, the debate will be a sort of soliloquy of the minorities. And the vote? Sources within the majority believe that a vote tomorrow is impossible. The only party that has already given one of its members the mandate to intervene in the event of a declaration of vote is the League, with the deputy Simonetta Matone. Fratelli d'Italia and Forza Italia, on the other hand, will decide when the vote on the motion of no confidence will be scheduled, most likely starting next week. A sign that there is no rush, no rush.
