Afd, no thanks. The Venetian Lega members dampen Salvini's enthusiasm

But the revitalization of the extreme right, they say, is the fault of an increasingly Martian left
Venice. The victory of the German moderates is welcome. “Certainly. The European Union has lost its compass and there is no time to waste”. The rise of neo-Nazis in disguise must instead be repudiated. “With absolute firmness: the Venetian League has nothing in common with the ideology of AfD” . And Salvini’s League? “It has very solid roots in our territories. It is good that it does not deviate from these demands”. To be more precise: “ Let’s leave certain people to Vannacci ”. The Northern League should hold back its greeting. Word from the Zaia household. And yet try explaining that to the deputy prime minister, who immediately congratulates Alice Weidel on her electoral exploit. “I respect everyone”, says Roberto Marcato, a loose cannon councillor in the Veneto political arena, “but I refuse to shake hands with anyone who extends an outstretched arm . The model of the Liga – and consequently of the League – must be that of a post-ideological, autonomist and anti-fascist force without any hesitation. The next congress will have to clarify what kind of party we will be, removing doubts about the gray areas”. A bitter pill for Borghi and his gang. “At the same time, if there is a revitalization of the right it is because of a left that in recent years has stopped dealing with the daily lives of citizens”. Examples? “Security is a necessity. Immigration exists. Knowing how to manage it is a social sustainability obligation”. But so is, says Marcato, “working on an energy plan that balances the environment and businesses: it is bad that certain issues have been appropriated by progressives”.
Alberto Villanova , Zaia's group leader in the Regional Council, is on the same wavelength. "While Trump and Putin mock the EU and China invades our markets, what does the European Commission do? It worries about inclusive language. To what extent do we want to remain detached from time and space?" And Afd? "Here there is not and there never will be room for them. They represent the furthest thing from Veneto. And also from the League".
