Zibido San Giacomo: Workers at the Zaf company protest against its sudden closure.
Zibido San Giacomo, July 16, 2025 – The sudden decision by ZAF management to close the plant and lay off approximately 50 employees and the mayor of Zibido is causing concern. Mayor Sonia Belloli has asked Milan's Prefect, Claudio Sgaraglia, for a meeting to discuss the matter. In addition to representatives of the historic company—known worldwide for its shelving design and construction— the meeting is expected to include the municipal administration, the Metropolitan City of Milan's Labor Department, and the trade unions. "As soon as I heard the news," Mayor Sonia Belloli explains, "I instructed two of my councilors, Giacomo Serra and Giovanni Navicello, to meet with the trade unions to obtain all the details of the situation. After consulting with the Metropolitan City's Labor Department, I felt it was essential to involve the Prefect of Milan so he could consider activating an institutional discussion forum." The mayor also stated that she has already had direct contact with ZAF leaders : "They have expressed their willingness to participate in meetings to better clarify the situation that has arisen. The meetings will be held after the one scheduled for tomorrow at the Ministry of Economic Development, which will also be attended by the Lombardy Region's crisis management unit." A first ministerial meeting with all parties involved is scheduled for today at 5:00 PM .
