Only European-made food in schools. The Commission's proposal to support EU agriculture.

MILAN – The European Commission will propose that fruit, vegetables, and milk distributed in European schools come only from European producers, according to the Financial Times. The initiative, part of the review of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), aims to support local agriculture and reduce imports, which currently exceed exports, especially for fruit and vegetables, the City newspaper explains. The European school program, which distributes approximately €220 million worth of products each year, will continue under the next EU budget starting in 2028.
The addition of a "made in Europe" clause reflects Brussels' push for European institutions and companies to prioritize domestic products over imports, in an effort to revive the Union's declining industry. The plan comes as the Commission prepares to introduce sweeping changes to agricultural funding in its next common budget.
