B Corp companies in the food sector are growing: +166% in the last three years.

In the food sector, a growing number of companies have decided to commit to sustainability and have achieved B Corp Certification , promoting responsible business models focused on environmental protection and community well-being. The number of certified B Corps operating in the food sector has grown by 166% in the last three years alone. Currently, there are 30 Italian companies certified in this field, which alone generate approximately 20% of the total revenue of all Italian B Corps.
These companies are part of a constantly growing movement, which in Italy includes 352 B Corps, with over 45,000 employees and a total turnover of over 19 billion euros, according to data updated at the end of June 2025.
At a regional level, the geographic distribution of B Corps in the food sector is strongly concentrated in Northern Italy (63.3%): in particular, Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna both account for 20% of the total. Veneto and Lazio follow, with each representing 10% of B Corps. Finally, Central Italy as a whole accounts for 20%, while the South is home to 16.7% of the total certified companies.
These companies, which present a varied size distribution , employ a total of over 18,000 people, equal to 41% of the total workforce of Italian B Corps. The majority (46%) are medium-sized companies with between 50 and 250 employees, followed by large companies with more than 250 employees, which make up 16% of the total. Micro-enterprises, with fewer than 10 employees, represent a smaller share (3.3%), while 3% are large companies with more than 1,000 employees.
Italian B Corps operating in the food sector combine production excellence and environmental sustainability , thanks to a strong focus on innovation and product quality, with the aim of generating a positive impact along the entire agri-food supply chain. Seventy-three percent of these companies (22 out of 30) have developed business models that place environmental protection at the center, with particular attention to reducing pollution and protecting natural resources. Of the 27 Impact Business Models (IBM) obtained by all B Corps in the Environment area, the most frequently adopted is related to the reduction or remediation of toxic substances . This model recognizes companies whose products or services contribute significantly to the reduction or recovery of environmental pollutants.
Furthermore, 30% of companies are actively engaged in communities , offering support for local economic development, while the remaining 12% generate a positive impact on their employees or customers through initiatives aimed at inclusion, well-being, and quality of life. Specifically, some companies invest in the development and integration of people with disabilities, while others support parenting, financial security, and the health and well-being of their employees, promoting their engagement and satisfaction in the workplace. Other companies, for example, adopt virtuous practices to reduce food waste, recover and recycle packaging, or invest in renewable energy for food transportation.
“Being a B Corp means choosing to put the common good at the center , taking on the responsibility of producing not only economic value, but also social and environmental value. In the food sector, this mission translates into a concrete and ongoing commitment to guaranteeing high-quality, healthy, fair, and sustainable food that respects the land, those who grow it, and those who consume it,” argue the Italian B Corps in the food sector, according to a press release. “We chose the B Corp model because we believe in innovation that can not only help us grow, but also contribute to improving the world around us. From the origin of ingredients to distribution, every choice we make is guided by the desire to build a more just and sustainable food system capable of generating a positive impact along the entire supply chain . We are not just companies: we are part of a global movement that wants to rewrite the way of doing business, demonstrating that business can be done by putting people and the planet at the center. This is the future we want to nurture.”
