Three years to the day after the invasion of Ukraine, Emmanuel Macron was solemnly welcomed to the White House for a one-on-one meeting, which is to be followed by lunch. The two presidents will give a press conference at 9 p.m.

The two leaders had already spoken to the press in the late afternoon during an informal speech, during which Emmanuel Macron assured that Europe was ready to "strengthen" its defense . "Our common objective," declared the French president, "is to build a solid and lasting peace" in Ukraine, adding that he hoped for a "strong" American involvement to guarantee it.
