Trump changes his mind and lets Nvidia export its advanced chips to China
The semiconductor company has obtained the US president's approval to sell its H2O components designed for artificial intelligence to Beijing, despite restrictions from the Trump administration. A "turnaround" that has not escaped the attention of the business press.
Everything is going well for Nvidia, the American semiconductor manufacturer. After achieving the status of "the first company valued at more than $4 trillion [nearly 344 billion euros]" last week, it has just received "assurance from the Trump administration that it can sell its H20 artificial intelligence chip in China," reports The Wall Street Journal .
This decision "marks a U-turn by the US government, after the Department of Commerce tightened restrictions on semiconductor sales [to China] in April, costing Nvidia billions of dollars," the US business daily continues.
Its CEO, Jensen Huang, who heard the news from Beijing, commented: “I am very happy about it.” Nvidia’s share price immediately rose 4% in pre-opening trading, confirming the chipmaker’s insolent good fortune, “one of whose few weak points” was precisely “the difficulty of trading with China due to export restrictions imposed by the United States.”
