Tourism: hotels, campsites, planes... Children are not welcome

When traveling or on vacation, "no kids" spaces are emerging among many tourism companies. For some, child-free stays are synonymous with peace of mind.
On vacation, children can sometimes seem noisy, even intrusive. In Seine-Maritime, a hotel complex promises a child-free vacation. Everything is designed with adults in mind. One couple paid 500 euros to enjoy some peace and quiet without their own children, or anyone else's. Hotels, travel agencies, airlines... In recent years, many sectors of the tourism industry have been turning to the "no kids" market .
Faced with this trend, the government wants to respond. Starting July 5, businesses that want to signal that children are welcome are invited to place a sticker with a stroller on their window. A senator has tabled a bill to punish places that refuse children, which she says constitutes discrimination. "These places assume that children are a nuisance," laments Laurence Rossignol, a Socialist senator from Val-de-Marne.
