After more than 30 years of absence, Belgium is relaunching a one-year paid voluntary military service aimed at training reservists.
For over thirty years now, young Belgians have not been subject to call-up, but they could be invited to do so. They can perform voluntary military service for a period of one year and with remuneration. The aim is to train reserve troops capable of lending a hand to professional soldiers if necessary.
This is a call that is addressed to both boys and girls. The start is planned for next year. But according to the unions, the Belgian army already lacks instructors to train today's new recruits.
