Payment of the 14th monthly payment for teachers begins: What is it and who is eligible? Everything you need to know.
The National Teachers' Social Benefits Fund (FOMAG) announced that the payment of the 14th monthly salary is now underway for more than 247,000 teachers nationwide , totaling 1.5 billion pesos.
This benefit, according to the organization, is part of the measures to improve the living conditions of teachers and the economic well-being of members within the official legal and educational system.
" We are honoring our retired teachers. The timely and early payment of the 14th monthly payment is a recognition of the value of their work and commitment to the country's education," said Aldo Cadena, vice president of FOMAG, in a statement.

This is an additional benefit received by certain retired teachers in Colombia. The beneficiaries include a portion of the teaching staff. It is distributed between June and July.
It was eliminated for new retirees starting in 2011 , but it's worth noting that some still receive it. This exceptional group consists of those who acquired this right before the legal provisions for receiving it were changed.
Although it continues to be provided, this allowance has been the subject of debate, as some teachers demand the right to receive it. However, the law and legal provisions on the subject have not changed.

According to the provisions established by the Ministry of Justice, a teacher may request payment of this additional allowance if he or she meets the following requirements:
- Having retired before July 25, 2005, and the pension must not exceed 15 current legal monthly minimum wages.
- Having retired between July 25, 2005, and July 31, 2011, and that pension does not exceed three current legal monthly minimum wages.
- Submit a written request for recognition of this monthly payment to the corresponding pension fund, which must respond within 15 business days of submitting the request.
- If the request is denied, the teacher can file a lawsuit against the pension fund to have the allowance recognized.

The process to request this allowance is free and does not require a lawyer , as established by the same entity.
