After a lifetime of entrepreneurship in traditional sectors such as insurance, real estate, and livestock farming, entrepreneur Antonio Ruiz Fernández-Huerga has decided to pivot his career by embarking on a new field: the renovation of historic homes to provide luxury accommodation for university students, a project called Castelo 6.
The Madrid-based businessman, who has had a close connection with Segovia since his childhood, has discovered how a city steeped in history and cultural tradition is changing rapidly and how it has become a key meeting place for students from all over the world. "The idea for Castelo 6 stems from something I began to see clearly in Segovia: the city was changing very rapidly. More students were arriving every year, especially from private universities, and the rental market wasn't prepared to absorb that demand," the businessman explains to ABC.
By contacting these young people, Ruiz Fernández-Huerga learned that the vast majority were paying prohibitive prices : "up to a thousand euros for a room, without decent conditions. I saw a clear need to offer something better. Well-kept, safe, comfortable spaces where students could truly feel at home. And I also saw an opportunity to do so by restoring historic buildings, bringing life to the city center, and adding value to both the environment and those who come to study here. That's how Castelo 6 was born: as a response to a growing demand, but also as a way of building a city."
Antonio Ruiz has already launched the first luxury student housing in an iconic 15th-century building in Segovia, located in the Jewish quarter with views of the Cathedral. "An ambitious real estate project, a complete renovation, in the heart of Segovia's historic center, and converted into high-end housing."
After more than four years of renovations, the historic building has been reborn as a unique alternative for students seeking luxury accommodation, a prime location, and quality services in a city with growing academic demand and a shortage of suitable residential options.
"This project isn't just about real estate," the entrepreneur points out, "it's a commitment to restoring life to Segovia's historic center, offering students decent, modern, and well-maintained housing." "A modern and responsible alternative to traditional shared rental models or tourist apartments," he continues, "which have drastically reduced the availability of stable housing in Segovia's city center."
This Madrid-based entrepreneur's project showcases the original architectural heritage , combining traditional restoration techniques with the most advanced housing solutions. To date, the result is six designer apartments, fully furnished and ready to move in, offering a unique residential experience in the university setting. "Each home," explains Ruiz Fernández-Huerga, "features exclusive decor, custom furniture, and fine materials. Each bedroom has a private bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, and a separate study area. You can also enjoy common areas with a completely remodeled patio and panoramic elevator. Sustainability and technology in the heart of a historic city."
In addition to their design and location, the homes stand out for their focus on energy efficiency and sustainability . The building incorporates the most advanced materials for thermal and acoustic insulation.
"The main idea is to offer a residential offering for a demanding profile, seeking more than just a room: a comprehensive experience of quality of life, community, and well-being. The homes have been available since August and can be reserved via email ([email protected]) or on Instagram (www.intagram.com/castelo6.segovia).
