Banco del Bienestar cards that will stop working: what will happen with payments?

Banco del Bienestar announced that all expired cards will no longer be able to function, meaning the cards can no longer be used for purchases, payments, or cash withdrawals. This measure aims to guarantee the safety of social program beneficiaries.
Like all bank cards, Bienestar cards have an expiration date approximately every four or five years. Therefore, all cards whose expiration date has expired , according to the date printed on the front of the card (month/year), will no longer work. Once expired, the system automatically blocks their use.
Even if the card is blocked, the deposited money is not lost . Beneficiaries will continue to receive their payments , but to withdraw them, they must go directly to the counter at any Banco del Bienestar branch , presenting valid government-issued identification .
If your card has expired and you haven't received your renewal yet, here are the steps to collect your benefits:
- Go to a Banco del Bienestar branch: bring a valid ID and, if you have it, your expired card.
- Request a withdrawal at the counter: staff will verify your information and allow you to withdraw the money corresponding to your social support.
- Waiting time: Deposits remain secure in your account until renewal. Cash withdrawals are immediate once your identity is validated.
This option allows beneficiaries to maintain their support and access resources while they process their new card.
There are two main ways to obtain a new card:
- By phone: Call 800-639-4264, select option 1, and provide your name, CURP (Tax ID Number), and phone number. A representative will indicate the date, time, and location for you to pick up your new card.
- At the branch: Present a valid ID along with the expired card. Staff will issue the new card and update the information in the system.
If the PIN is blocked due to an incorrect PIN or unusual activity, the reset usually occurs within 48 hours, but if it is due to expiration, only renewal will resolve the situation.
Renewing an expired card helps prevent setbacks when receiving social benefits , maintains secure operations, and ensures that beneficiaries continue to access their resources without interruption.
Banco del Bienestar recommends periodically checking your card's expiration date and requesting renewal in advance, as the process can take several days.
