Mexico is making history once again. With its third participation as a FIFA World Cup host—joining the United States and Canada in 2026—the Chamber of Deputies has approved the issuance of a collection of nine commemorative coins , which not only celebrate the spirit of football but also pay tribute to numismatic culture and investment in precious metals.

With 438 votes in favor, the ruling was approved and is awaiting publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation , giving the green light to the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) to mint this limited edition that promises to become a desirable object for collectors and investors.

The collection will consist of nine commemorative coins , divided into three categories:

  • 3 pure gold coins
    • Face value: 25 pesos
    • Contents: 1/4 troy ounce of pure gold
    • Diameter: 25 mm
  • 3 pure silver coins
    • Face value: 10 pesos
    • Contents: 1/4 troy ounce of pure silver
    • Diameter: 40 mm
  • 3 bimetallic coins
    • Face value: 20 pesos
    • Composition: alloy of bronze, copper and zinc

These coins will not be used as public currency, but are intended for collectors, soccer fans, and investors . Each coin will feature the Mexican National Emblem on the front, along with the legend "United Mexican States."

Although the final designs have not yet been revealed, the Bank of Mexico will be responsible for creating them. The reverse of each coin will include:

  • Motifs alluding to the 2026 FIFA World Cup
  • Face value
  • The official mint of the Mexican Mint ("Mo")

This detail increases their symbolic, aesthetic, and financial value, making them highly sought-after pieces during and after the tournament.

Once published in the Official Gazette and issued by Banxico, the coins are expected to be available through:

  • Authorized banking institutions
  • Mexico's own Mint
  • Numismatic platforms
  • Official FIFA events in Mexico

It is recommended to closely monitor official channels such as www.banxico.org.mx for availability dates, prices, and points of sale.

Beyond the sporting arena, the 2026 World Cup will generate an estimated $5 billion in economic revenue in Mexico alone. The following are expected:

  • The arrival of 1.5 million tourists
  • Generation of up to 100,000 direct and indirect jobs
  • Increase in investment, infrastructure and trade

The host cities— Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey —will be the epicenter of this transformation, increasing the symbolic value of the coins issued in this historic context.

The 2026 World Cup commemorative coins represent much more than a collector's item. They are a symbol of national pride, an investment opportunity, and a tangible testament to a new era of soccer in Mexico. If you are a collector, a soccer lover, or simply want a unique memento of the world's biggest sporting event, this is an opportunity you can't miss.
