Nestlé: 15% share price gain since the beginning of the year – is this the turning point?

Nestlé shares have been on a sustained downward trend since January 2022 and reached a multi-year low in early 2025, losing around 40 percent in value overall. However, the stock has recovered by 15 percent since the beginning of the year. This latest development raises the question of whether a trend reversal is on the horizon.
In a positive market environment, the food company's share can continue to rise and is currently up two percent. This could be due, among other things, to the fact that Goldman Sachs has raised the price target for the existing buy recommendation from 86 to 93 francs. The analyst emphasizes that the annual forecast is on a solid basis, but points out that the realignment introduced under CEO Laurent Freixe has so far had little impact and a turnaround therefore requires patience. In addition, rising inflation for coffee and cocoa and higher marketing costs are putting pressure on margins. In the long term, however, Nestlé is well positioned - improved balance sheet figures could pave the way for another share buyback program from 2026, argues the American investment bank.

Although the recent price recovery appears encouraging, it is premature to speak of a sustainable turnaround. The structural challenges, such as margin pressure and subdued growth, remain. Investors should monitor further developments closely and keep an eye on the company's progress in implementing its strategies to increase margins and promote growth. Nestlé is currently not recommended as a buy by DER AKTIONÄR.

Nestlé is a member of the DER AKTIONÄR European Champions Index. Other members include European heavyweights such as SAP, Novo Nordisk, ASML and LVMH. With the index certificate WKN DA0AC3, investors can participate almost one-to-one in the development of eleven European global corporations. While the European Champions Index has performed worse than the Dow Jones in the past, this has changed fundamentally in the last three months. During this time, the European Champions Index has gained almost ten percent, while the Dow Jones has lost a good two percent.
