Food delivery services: Shared meal

Delivery Hero's major shareholder is bidding for Just Eat Takeaway. The goal: to create a "European champion".
The European food delivery industry is facing a reorganization. Delivery Hero's major shareholder Prosus submitted a takeover offer for Just Eat Takeaway on Monday in order to form a "European champion." "Prosus already has an extensive portfolio of food suppliers outside Europe and has a track record of profitable growth," said Fabricio Bloisi, head of the investor. Just Eat's management says it unanimously supports the takeover.
The Dutch financial investor Prosus, which is controlled by the South African group Naspers, is offering Just Eat shareholders 20.30 euros per share. "Some analysts see this as the first step towards a merger with Delivery Hero," said a stock market analyst. According to Prosus boss Bloisi, there are currently no plans for this.
With a 28 percent stake, Prosus is by far the largest shareholder in Delivery Hero. The Berlin-based company is mainly active abroad. The group includes Glovo in Spain and various Foodpanda offshoots in Asia, which Delivery Hero wants to separate from. The most recent growth drivers were the Middle East subsidiary Talabat and "Pedidosya" in South America, which brought the group a surprisingly strong result in 2024.
