Cum-Ex: This ruling sends the wrong signal

The Cum-Ex star witness is allowed to remain free despite tax losses of almost half a billion euros. The court only sentenced him to a suspended sentence. This is disastrous.

Kai -Uwe Steck, along with other actors, systematically ripped off the state through share deals. In just five cases heard before the Bonn Regional Court, the tax losses amounted to more than 420 million euros. That's a four, a two, and then seven zeros. For years, he was one of the key architects of the large-scale tax deals known as Cum-Ex . He knew he was ripping off the state and stopped at almost any trick to rake in more and more millions.
